Fee Disputes
The Memphis Bar Association, through its Legal Fee Dispute Committee, provides an informal and free way to resolve fee disputes between clients and attorneys.
The procedure is as follows:
- Client files a complaint with the Memphis Bar Association and agrees to arbitrate the fee dispute.
- The attorney is then notified and if he/she agrees to arbitrate the fee dispute, it is set for hearing before a 3-attorney panel.
- The client does not need to be, but may be represented, by an attorney at the hearing.
- At the conclusion of the hearing, the panel renders a decision which is binding on the client and the attorney.
