A mandatory orientation for all interns will be held on Thursday, May 30 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Memphis City Council Chambers on the first floor of 125 N. Main St. in downtown Memphis. At the orientation you will receive information about how to successfully complete the Summer Law Intern Program and will meet with a representative of the workplace to which you have been assigned. Lunch will be provided. If you cannot attend the orientation due to a previous commitment, please ask a parent or other adult to attend and get the materials on your behalf.
The program begins June 3 and runs until June 28. During that time, you are required to work a total of 60 hours and attend group activities each Friday (June 7, 14, 21, and 28). The schedule of when you work will be determined by you and the workplace to which you have been assigned. Information about the group activities will be provided at the orientation.
For this outing, dress comfortably (business casual, no heels) as we will be standing/walking for at least one hour. Arrive early if possible so we can leave on time. Bring your signed timesheet (or email a scanned copy to firstname.lastname@example.org.)
This week you'll participate in an interactive negotiation exercise and then hear from a panel of lawyers on why they chose law as a career, among other topics.
This week you'll tour the University of Memphis Cecil C Humphreys Law School (bring your parent/guardian!), participate in a mock law class and then a Q & A session followed by a college fair. Lunch will be provided.
This week's activity will be held in the Judge D'Army Bailey Shelby County Courthouse, 140 Adams Ave.
