Beyond Demographics: Modern Voir Dire Strategies

Published by Memphis Bar Association

Summary

Jurors are like icebergs. What is above the water and visible are demographics such as gender and ethnicity. But below the water, and the larger part of the iceberg, reside the life experiences, pre-dispositions, memories, and social pressures that form the worldviews which drive verdict orientation. Voir dire is an opportunity to dive deep and explore these constructs. Drawing from over 22 years studying jury decision-making and advising clients as a jury consultant, Mr. Bloom will teach the psychology of voir dire as well as provide tips and strategies to identify the dangerous jurors.
