Pro Bono Legal Assistance
There are two local pro bono legal agencies that may be able to help answer your questions and direct you to an attorney:
Memphis Area Legal Services (MALS) Since 1970, MALS has been committed to equal justice for all people, providing aid to nearly 8,000 people in distress each year. MALS Attorneys do not accept fees for their services, including legal representation. MALS does not handle criminal cases, class action lawsuits or fee generating cases such as personal injury, worker's compensation or criminal victim's injury compensation, among others. To contact MALS or find out more about its services, visit the organization's web site at www.malsi.org.
Community Legal Center (CLC) An independent non-profit agency housed at Metropolitan Inter-Faith Association (MIFA), CLC provides the working poor better access to the legal system through information, representation and mediation. To contact CLC, call (901) 543-3395, or visit MIFA's web site at www.mifa.org.
