Special Assistant Federal Defender (uncompensated position)
The Office of Federal Defender, Western District of Tennessee, is seeking attorneys to participate in te Legal Fellows Program, working in a litigation or appellate writing capacity. Appointments are for one year, subject to renewal; work schedules are generally established on a full-time basis. Memphis Law School Registrar Position Available
The University of Memphis Law School is accepting aplications for the position of Law School Registrar. The Registrar serves as the primary leader for the Law School's Registrar's Office. This position directs the day-to-day management of the office, including but not limited to, enrollment verification, managing student academic records, ensuring proper and timely responses and the exchange of information. The Staff Attorney (Professional Contracting) reports to the Senior Staff Attorney and provides legal counsel to Baptist Memorial Health Care Corporation and its affiliates by researching and making recommendations based on federal and state statutes and exercising expertise in areas related to the Stark Law, the Anti-Kickback statute, the False Claims Act and any other similar or related state or federal compliance laws. This position is primarily responsible for analyzing potential compliance issues, including reviewing, conducting research and analysis, and providing legal advise about contracts with referral sources and other business dealings with physicians and other referral sources, handling professional services agreements between Baptist's affiliates and physicians, physician practices and other referral sources. This position will also be responsible for providing routine business contract review and advice and general health law advice on a short turnaround time basis as well as performing other duties as assigned.
Provides legal advice as may be necessary to ensure protection of Baptist's legal rights and to ensure that overall operations comply with all applicable laws, rules, regulations and advisory opinions;
Researches and prepares recommendations related to a wide array of compliance matters;
Assists in interpreting existing or proposed legislaton or regulations affecting Baptist;
Reviews policies and procedures to ensure compliance with state and federal laws, rules, regulations advisory opionions;
Recommends the initiation of legal action or participates in the preparaton of Baptist's defense or prosecution of legal actions;
Drafts, reviews, advises and, if requested, negotiates new and existing agreements for Baptist including such services agreements or leases as may be requested by the Senior Staff Attorney; and
Performs any other assigned duties.
Must be able to accurately and successfully manage multiple, critical contracting matters and output time-limited projects;
Must have excellent legal writing skills and be able to quidkly and accurately advise Baptist while professionally negotiating with opposing counsel;
Must have a pleasant demeanor and be able to function effectively with other members of the legal team as well as all other employees of a large corporate clientele;
Must have exceptional problem-solving and writing skills;
Must be able to consistently meet deadlines while handling multiple complex projects and impromptu issues;
JD (Juris Doctor) or equivalent degree from an accredited school of law; and
Admitted to Arkansas, Mississippi, or Tennessee Bar.
All of the foregoing plus five (5) years experience in a corporate health law setting and/or law practice working specifically on compliance and contracting matters;
Specific compliance law experience in the health care setting;
Experience handling commercial transactions and contract negotiations; and
Admission to the Mississippi Bar.

Innovation Delivery Team Project Manager Position Available
The City of Memphis is currently seeking an Innovation Delivery Team Project Manager. The city was selected by Bloomberg Philanthropies as one of five cities nationwide to receive an Innovation Delivery Team grant. The three-year grant ending in October 2014 represents one of the largest private-sector commitments to social innovation in our nation's history. The grant will fund local teams, housed within the Mayor's Office, charged with developing innovative, effective solutions to some of the city's most pressing challenges. Reporting directly to the Director of the Mayor's Innovation Delivery Team, the Innovation Delivery Team Project Managers are responsible for coordinating all work across their respective priority areas, from facilitating idea generation through implementation planning and delivery. This includes creating work plans, developing working relationships and liaising with agency heads and other stakeholders in order to deliver on the established innovation delivery targets. Since January 2012, the team has been working on two challenges: reducing incidences of handgun violence, particularly among young people, and generating economic vitality in core city neighborhoods. A series of initiatives is already underway for these two challenge areas. The newly selected project manager would add capacity to the daily management of those initiatives, but would principally be charged with leading a third as yet to be selected challenge area.
