After public interviews conducted by the Trial Court Vacancy Commission on November 6, three members of the Memphis Bar Association (MBA) have been nominated to fill the Criminal Court vacancy created by Judge James Beasley, Jr. later this year.

The names of Assistant U.S. Attorney Dean DeCandia (and current MBA president), attorney Jennifer J. Mitchell, and Deputy District Attorney General Jennifer S. Nichols (recent prosecutor on the Holly Bobo trial) will be submitted to Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam for consideration. This will be Governor Haslam's sixth judicial appointment in Shelby County.
