19 Attorneys Graduate from the Leadership Forum

A graduation ceremony was held yesterday for 19 young attorneys who participated in the 2012-2013 Leadership Forum. In addition to attending monthly sessions on various leadership topics, the participants were divided into four small groups, each of which had to develop and present a community service project. Once again, they amazed us with the depth and scope of their projects. Three groups made presentations in schools: 1) an interactive presentation to middle school kids based on real-life cases arising from a fight between Chris Brown and Drake (and if you have to ask yourself, “who are they?”, you’re officially old); 2) a presentation to over 250 Overton High School students on how to become a lawyer; and 3) teaching leadership skills to those in the city schools’ W.I.N. Program – sort of a “mini” Leadership Forum. The other group was in charge of the April 23rd Veteran’s Legal Clinic, including a training session for lawyers immediately prior to it.
The graduates of the 2012-2013 Leadership Forum are: David Biggers, U.S. Attorney’s Office; Anne Davis, Butler Sevier Hinsley & Reid; Jake Dickerson, Baker Donelson Bearman Caldwell & Berkowitz; Amber Floyd, Wyatt Tarrant & Combs; Lisa Gill, Dinkelspiel Rasmussen & Mink; Adam Johnson, Nahon Saharovich & Trotz; Brooks Kostakis, Boyle Brasher; Christina Kurdilla, Martin Tate Morrow & Marston; Gabrielle Lewis, Bass Berry & Sims; Omar Malik, DA’s Office; Laura Martin, Harris Shelton Hanover Walsh; Michael C. McLaren, Butler Snow; Melisa Moore, Burch Porter & Johnson; Ruchee Patel, sole practitioner; Shayla Purifoy, MALS; Robert Ratton and Maya Siggers, City Attorney’s Office; Tony Silva, Donati Law Firm; and Mary Wagner, Rice Amundsen & Caperton.
Our thanks also to the mentors, speakers and steering committee members: Ahsaki Baptist, Steve Barlow, Lucie Brackin, Richard Chotard, Laurie Christensen, Mike Cody, Craig Conley, Freeman Foster, Hon. John Fowlkes, Lee Harris, Dr. Katherine Hendrix, Kim Hodges, Iyona Hilliard Houston, Justin Joy, Richelle Kidder, Chris Lareau, Connie Lewis Lensing, Jeana Littrell, Hon. Dan Michael, Justin Mitchell, Paul Morris, Lisa Overall, Hon. Curtis Person, Edd Peyton, Kevin Ritz, Larry Scroggs, Kathy Story, Jim Strickland, Trey Thacher, and Van Turner.

Bench Bar a Resounding Success!

More than 160 attorneys, judges, and guests gathered at Tops’l Beach Resort last week to enjoy high-quality CLE programs, the beach and shopping, and relaxed interaction with their colleagues. Although the week began with somewhat chilly and cloudy, the weather was beautiful by the end. Attendees could learn everything from the latest on social media and its impact on the law (and lawyer advertising) to the newly proposed local federal rules. Friday morning was spent on jury selection including a demonstration by Kirk Caraway and Bryan Smith.
Our thanks to MBA sponsors The Marston Group and RocketFuel, and as always, the MBA’s title sponsors – Alpha Reporting, BankTennessee, and IPSCO—for their support. And a special thanks to Morgan & Morgan—Memphis for sponsoring the hospitality suite (and your sign wasn’t stolen this year!) We appreciate all of the other sponsors of the Conference—we couldn’t do it without you!
Visit the MBA Facebook page to see photos from the conference.
The Conference returns to Tops'l next year from May 7-10, 2014. Mark your calendars and plan to attend!
