YLD Golf Tournament, June 24

Sign Up Today or On-Site Tomorrow

On June 24, 2011, the YLD will host its annual Golf Tournament at Glen Eagle Golf Course located in Millington, Tennessee. Tee time is at 1:00 p.m. for this “shotgun start.” Managed by the Navy Golf Program, Glen Eagle Golf Course features rolling hills, magnificent fairways, and well-maintained greens. The course provides an exciting play for golfers of any skill level. At only 20 minutes from downtown Memphis and a registration fee of $65 per person, the Golf Tournament is both conveniently located and affordable. Plus, proceeds from the Tournament will go to benefit the Downtown Porter Boys and Girls Club. Prizes will also be awarded to our top finishers, as well as for the longest drive and closet to the pin, just to name a few. So, whether you are a scratch golfer or consider making contact with the ball off the tee a personal triumph, this is the tournament for you, as good times will be had by all.

Circuit Court, Division 5, Announcement

Judge Robilio is now requiring the following Special Language in final decrees in cases where one or both parties have not attended the parenting class: "The parents have 30 days to attend the parenting seminar or be prejudiced thereby at any subsequent hearing by being held in contempt of the Court's Order." Judge Robilio wants this language in the Decree in BOLD AND CAPITAL LETTERS. Coffee and Karate Starts Tomorrow

The Wellness Committee of the MBA is proud to announce another opportunity for attorneys, their support staff, families, and friends.
     Justice Janice Holder (Sensei Holder) will be conducting low-cost, low-key karate classes during the months of June and July (and beyond, if there is sufficient interest). The cost is $5.00 per person, per class; and the location is the ground floor of the 55 South Main Street Building, Memphis. Classes are from 7-8:00 AM and include coffee by Besso’s (opening soon next door at 59 South Main Street). No prior experience is required. Wear comfortable clothing or yoga attire. The karate classes will consist of 15-20 minutes of stretching and warm-up and continue with the fundamentals of stances, blocks, punches and kicks.

     Sensei Holder is also available for 6:00 PM classes or weekend classes, should there be sufficient interest.
     Sensei Holder has been a student of the American Combative Arts System and of Grandmaster Patrick Wrenn since 1989 and earned her black belt in October 1997. She has been an instructor of the American Combative Arts System for nine years, teaching karate to children at the System’s Cordova and Harbor Town locations and to students at the Downtown Elementary School during the 2004-05 and 2005-06 academic years. She currently is an assistant instructor at the System’s Life Time Fitness location. Sensei Holder met the requirements for her second degree black belt in July 2003 and was promoted to third degree black belt in December 2005. In August 2002, Sensei Holder was honored by the Elvis Presley Memorial Martial Arts Hall of Fame for contributions to the community and to the martial arts.
     The practice of karate teaches concentration, focus, and proper breathing. Please come and join us!

Volunteer Without Leaving Your Office

On-call Opportunity Now Available to Pro Bono Attorneys

You can now volunteer for the Attorney for the Day or Saturday Legal Clinic without leaving the comfort of your home or office, as back-up counsel. What this means is that you can agree to be available by telephone to consult with an in person volunteer during these times. For example, a family law attorney might agree to be available on Thursday, June 23rd from 1:30-4 at 901.123.4567 for any attorneys at the Attorney of the Day program who have a family law related problem. The Attorney for the Day program is every Thursday afternoon from 1:30-4 and the Saturday Legal Clinic is the second Saturday of each month from 9:30 to noon. Gracie Jiu Jitsu Seminar–Invitation Only, June 23

On Thursday, June 23 at 7:00 p.m., Rodrigo Gracie, a Jiu Jitsu black belt, Pride, K-1 and ADCC champion, son of Reylson Gracie, cousin of Royce Gracie and grandson of Carlos Gracie, who has competed professionally against the likes of Hayato Sakurai, Carlos Newton and B.J. Penn, to name a few, will be giving a Jiu Jitsu seminar at Chad Chilcutt’s Premier Martial Arts Academy, A Royce Gracie Jiu Jitsu Network located at 9915 Highway 64. The seminar is closed to the public, but because Chad Chilcutt will soon be offering a special program for attorneys downtown, he would like to invite you to come watch or participate in the seminar to see what Jiu Jitsu is all about. Watching the event is free, participation will cost $65. Whether you intend to participate or simply observe, please contact Chad Chilcutt student, Justin R.
